Alesi Gerthe to attend NASCAR and WWCF Awards Event in Daytona

Alesi&Lyn.jpg

ROCKDALE, Texas - New Breed Racing's Alesi Gerthe has been invited to celebrate a day of diversity with NASCARĀ® and the Women In The Winner's Circle Foundation at the 3rd Annual NASCAR Diversity Affairs Awards Event and the 8th Annual Women in the Winner's Circle Awards Event on February 10, 2009 at the Daytona 500 Experience in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The awards event, which has traditionally been held in Indianapolis, will celebrate the opening of The Women in the Winner's Circle Traveling Exhibit at the Daytona 500 Experience. The 600 sq. ft. traveling exhibition recognizes the past history, the growing achievements, and the future growth of women in racing. The exhibition is organized by The Henry Ford in collaboration with automobile racing legend Lyn St. James and the Women in the Winner's Circle Foundation. This one of a kind exhibit will travel around the United States at select venues until 2014. It will engage viewers and inform them about the history of women in motor sports. This exhibit will expose thousands of new viewers to women in racing in each market the exhibit visits and will raise awareness of the growing women's presence and leadership in the sport.

"To be a female in the male-dominated sport of racing takes perseverance and courage," said Lisa Gerthe. "Alesi is thrilled to be a part of this experience and we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments and achievements of other female racers, past and present. We are excited to see the exhibit and witness the story of women's accomplishments in motor sports and although it is cliche', there is no other term to describe the feeling as a parent to know Alesi is part of the story except...priceless!!! We caught a glimpse of the exhibit in photos as it was being assembled and we can't wait to see it in person on Wednesday."

Big Texan - one step closer to 50th annual NHRA Winternationals

They say a picture is worth a thousand words - this one might be 1001.

As Tad and Doug make there way across the country to Pomona for the 50th running on the NHRA Winternationals, it's good to see they're making progress.

Here's Doug - looking ready for a nap in this Big Texan rocking chair. Let's hope he didn't eat the Big Texan 72oz steak and that Amarillo is far enough away from weather that it's all smooth sailing from here.

If you're traveling across Texas - this looks like the place to stop. I wonder if we could get a food sponsor? Maybe next trip.

Check out the toy at the beginning - they just don't make cool toys like that anymore do they?

How much fuel does a Top Fuel Dragster use?

It's one of the more common questions we get asked when we're racing. While we tell everyone that we use about 20 gallons of nitro methane on the warm up and run - it's sometimes hard to understand just how much fuel that is.

Here's a video - showing ONE (1) cylinder - and the amount of fuel that goes into that cylinder over the course of a race. Multiply that by 8 - hold the throttle for about 4 seconds - and well, you've burned a bunch of VPs finest race fuel.

Amalie Oil goes Full Throttle with Terry McMillen next season

nhra_cover.jpgTAMPA, Fla. - Amalie Oil announced a multi-year partnership today with Terry McMillen and Hoosier Thunder Motorsports. McMillen will field a Top Fuel team for the entire NHRA Full Throttle drag racing season. The announcement extends a decade long relationship for McMillen and Amalie Oil that began with McMillen's iconic Amalie Oil InstiGator Alcohol Funny Car.

"This is a big step for us and for Amalie Oil," McMillen said. "Competing full time against the biggest and best teams in drag racing is going to be challenging and rewarding. I can't thank them enough for helping us grow our program to this level. It's the perfect place to showcase Amalie's 'Better than it has to be' product line."

Amalie's racing heritage began when their red and white logo began appearing on legendary drag racing teams piloted by Gene Snow and Shirley Muldowney. A decade ago, Amalie began its relationship with McMillen continuing its commitment to showcasing their high performance oil in drag racing.

For the past two seasons, Amalie has been campaigning McMillen's Top Fuel team in select NHRA races and the results were immediate. McMillen qualified in every event entered, including a record setting field in 2008 at Las Vegas. In 2009 McMillen set a new career best in Englishtown and earned his first round win against then points leader Antron Brown in Charlotte.
